Abruzzo Maps

Abruzzo is geographically and culturally at the crossroads between Northern and Southern Italy.

On a parallel with Rome but closer to Naples than it is to Florence it arguably has more in common with the South than the North and was part of the Kingdom of Naples prior to the unification of Italy in 1861.

Until modern times much of Abruzzo was inaccessible but today you can reach the region from it’s own airport at Pescara or via Rome or Ancona.

Casa Cichella and Fonte Monache are located just outside the medieval village of Montefino in Teramo province.

Montefino is perfectly located as it lies half way between the Adriatic beaches at Pineto and Scerne and the Gran Sasso  National park which include the highest peaks of the Apennines.

The region’s largest cities of Teramo, L’Aquila, Pescara and Chieti are all within easy reach as are many beautiful medieval towns such as Atri and Penne.
